My Journey on Becoming an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator

Over ten years ago, I embarked on a transformative journey that would shape my career as a
dog trainer. I became an approved evaluator in the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, a gold standard in promoting responsible dog ownership and
exemplary canine behavior.

Becoming a Model Citizen.

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is a comprehensive approach to dog training that covers ten essential skills, emphasizing well-mannered and sociable behavior in dogs. Open to all dogs regardless of breed or background, the CGC program reflects a philosophy that any dog can become a model citizen with proper training and care. The program's principles form the core of effective dog training approaches, emphasizing the importance of the bond between dogs and their owners while promoting responsible ownership.

The CGC Program isn't
Just Another Certificate

The impact of CGC training extends far beyond basic obedience. It opens doors for therapy work, advanced dog sports, and can even make life easier when it comes to renting apartments or obtaining insurance. It's a testament to how well-trained dogs can enhance our lives and communities.

Is Your Dog Ready to be a Model Citizen?

Passing the test and becoming a good citizen requires dedication, practice, and a thorough understanding of societal norms and expectations. If your dog has mastered the necessary skills through consistent training and positive reinforcement, it may indeed be time to have them evaluated for their Canine Good Citizen certification. Before our meeting, I will review the specific skills and behaviors required to pass the test, ensuring that both you and your canine companion are well-prepared for this important assessment of obedience and good manners.
